Black-Eyed Peas and Rice Recipe

This southern-style Black-Eyed Peas and Rice is a great recipe for New Year’s Day, and is also a nutritious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as a side or as a tasty main dish for lunch or dinner all year long.

Southern Hoppin' John Ingredients

Rehydrate the beans overnight or for at least 6 to 8 hours in cold water.

Then drain and thoroughly rinse the bans. They are now ready to cook!

Saute onions, ham hock, and garlic in a medium pot for 6 to 7 minutes. 

Add remaining ingredients, cover, and simmer for 45  to 60 minutes.

Season with salt and pepper and serve over hot cooked rice.
