You know those days when you crave something a little different, a little unexpected, and pure indulgence? Well, let me tell you about Dr Pepper Cake, a deliciously moist cake that is quick and easy to make!
1cupDr Pepper, can substitute Dr Pepper Cream Soda
⅓cupvegetable oil
2large eggs,at room temperature
Chocolate Frosting
5tablespoonsbutter
⅓cupcocoa powder
½cupDr Pepper
3cupspowdered sugar
Chocolate sprinklesoptional
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F and generously spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray or grease with butter.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, Dr Pepper, vegetable oil, and eggs. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined—but be careful not to overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean when tested.
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before frosting.
While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting. In a medium saucepan, melt the softened butter over low heat.
Whisk in the cocoa powder and Dr Pepper and continue whisking until the mixture is smooth.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. It will be thin.
Pour the warm frosting over the slightly cooled cake, allowing it to spread evenly.
If desired, top with chocolate sprinkles and then let the cake cool for about one hour in the fridge to allow the frosting time to set.
Notes
Use a high-quality cake mix and Dr Pepper for the best possible flavor. After combining the cake mix with the Dr Pepper and other ingredients, stir just until everything is well incorporated. Overmixing can cause the cake to be dense instead of light and fluffy.Only open the oven toward the end of the suggested baking time. You can check if the cake is done by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs, the cake is ready. Opening the oven too early can cause the cake to deflate. After frosting, give the cake time to cool completely before slicing. This helps the frosting set and makes the cake easier to cut into neat slices.
