    Menu suggestions

While this dish is wonderful on its own, when we have company, I like to serve these apple pie cinnamon rolls along with my Southern cheese grits casserole, sausage cheese bread, and either my fruit salad cocktail or ambrosia on a breakfast or brunch buffet.

If I am feeding a crowd, I usually add my cast iron breakfast skillet or spinach and bacon quiche with tomatoes.

Add a scoop of vanilla or bourbon ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream and some caramel sauce to serve it as dessert.

    Recipe variations:

If you’re not in the mood for apples, you can change things up by substituting cherry, strawberry, peach, or blueberry pie filling. You can also substitute pecans or whatever nuts you have on hand for the walnuts.

How to store and reheat leftovers

Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to three days.

To reheat the rolls, pop them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.

    Recipe FAQs:

Can I substitute homemade apple pie filling?

Yes! Here is an easy recipe: cook one cup of peeled and chopped apples, ¼ cup brown sugar, and two tablespoons of butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Stir frequently, and cook for 8-10 minutes or until the apples are tender and the sugar and butter mixture thickens. Add one teaspoon of cinnamon.

Let the apples cool before using them in the recipe.

    Can I add raisins?

Of course, sprinkle them on at the same time as you add the nuts.

    Insider tips for perfect results

Make sure your oven is fully preheated to the right temperature before baking. This ensures the rolls bake evenly and develop a nice golden crust.

While it’s tempting to load up on the apple pie filling, only use a cup of the chopped apples to prevent the rolls from becoming soggy.
