Bacon and Cream Cheese Dip with Pecans

Bacon cream cheese dip on a plate with crackers and garnished with pecans and chopped-up scallions.

Bacon and Cream Cheese Dip with Pecans is the ultimate crowd-pleaser! And let me tell you, this recipe is not just good—it’s legendary. Known by some as Million Dollar Dip, Millionaires Dip, or even Neiman Marcus Dip, this recipe earns its glamorous names with every creamy, cheesy, and bacon-packed bite.

Now, I know what you’re thinking—how can something so simple taste so fancy? The magic lies in the mix: tangy cream cheese and sour cream form a velvety base, sharp cheddar adds that irresistible bite, crispy bacon brings the smoky crunch, and roasted pecans.

While some recipes call for almonds, I prefer pecans in mine. It’s a southern thing. Pecans make this dip unique and so tasty. Sprinkle in some fresh scallions, and you’ve got a recipe that’s as easy to make as addictive.

Whether you scoop it up with crackers, spread it on toasted baguette slices, or shamelessly eat it straight from the bowl (no judgment here!), this bacon and cream cheese dip, like my Crock-Pot Jalapeno Popper Dip and BLT Dip, is pure comfort in every bite.

Why I love this recipe (and, you will too)

    1. It’s quick and easy: This bacon cream cheese dip doesn’t require any baking and comes together in just 5 minutes.
    2. Simple ingredients: My recipe only calls for seven ingredients, and I’m guessing you already have most of them in your pantry and fridge.
    3. It’s perfect for any occasion. A good dip brings people together, whether at a holiday gathering, a tailgate, or just a cozy evening with friends, and this make-ahead cream cheese and bacon dip is one of the best.

    Ingredient notes and substitutions

Dip ingredients include cream cheese, scallions, pecans, sour cream and shredded cheese.
    • Cream cheese – is the glue (the delicious, creamy glue!) that makes this dip so irresistibly smooth and flavorful.
    • Sour cream – brings a slight tanginess that balances the richness of the cream cheese, mayo, and cheddar.
    • Mayonnaise – combined with cream cheese and sour cream- makes the dip even more delicious and spreadable. If you’re not a fan of mayo, you could substitute additional sour cream or Greek yogurt, but the taste and texture will be slightly different.
    • Cheddar Cheese – is the “zing” in this recipe, that elevates the dip from good to irresistible. It’s a must-have! I prefer to use extra sharp but use what you have on hand.
    • Scallions – also known as green onions, bring a bright, fresh flavor and a slight oniony taste to the dip.
    • Bacon – let’s be honest—bacon makes everything better, and its smoky, salty goodness is the heart and soul of this recipe. In a pinch, you can substitute real bacon bits.
    • Pecans – roasted pecans give the dip a touch of the South, making it feel extra special and unique. They’re also the secret ingredient that keeps people guessing and loving every bite! You can substitute almonds or other nuts if you prefer.
    • Complete measurements are listed in the complete recipe below.

    Serving and menu suggestions

For a holiday gathering or game-day party, serve this delicious dip with crackers or sturdy chips, along with my Buffalo Chicken Bites, Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp, and Artichoke-Stuffed Mushrooms. For a sweet treat, add my Chocolate Covered Pecans.

    Recipe variations

The beauty of Bacon and Cream Cheese Dip is how versatile it is. Here are some fun variations:

    • Add a diced jalapeño or a pinch of cayenne pepper for some heat.
    • Mix in different cheeses such as pepper jack, mozzarella, or gouda.
    • Stir in a handful of dried cranberries or chopped dates to add a hint of sweetness.
    • Lighten it up by using light cream cheese and sour cream and replacing the mayo with Greek yogurt.

    How to store leftovers

Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. I do not recommend freezing it as it will change the texture.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Yes! This dip is perfect for making ahead. You can prepare it up to 24 hours in advance and store it in the fridge in an airtight container. Just give it a quick stir before serving.

Should the dip be served cold or warm?

This dip is typically served cold, but it’s also delicious warm! If you want to serve it warm, bake it at 350°F for 15-20 minutes or until bubbly.

What’s the best way to serve this dip?

Serve it with crackers, tortilla chips, baguette slices, or fresh veggies such as celery, carrots, or bell pepper strips. It’s versatile enough to pair with just about anything!

Dip success 101: foolproof tips for the ultimate dip

Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or pop it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before mixing. Softened cream cheese is much easier to blend and ensures a smooth, creamy texture.

For the best flavor and crunch, cook your bacon fresh and let it cool before crumbling it into the dip. Baking the bacon in the oven at 400°F on a wire rack works great for evenly crisp bacon without the mess.

Be sure to roast your pecans. Roasting brings out the natural oils, enhancing their nutty, buttery flavor. It also crisps them up, giving them a more crunchy texture.

You can also roast a small amount in the microwave by placing them in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave them on high power for 1-minute intervals, stirring in between. The pecans are ready when they smell toasty and are slightly darker. This usually takes 2–3 minutes total.

This is super good. It does get pretty firm in the fridge. This time I used whipped cream cheese, which made it stay a bit softer.
