What Southerners Actually Eat in July

Published: Jul 18, 2026 by Sharon Rigsby · Leave a Comment

The rest of the country thinks summer food means burgers. Bless their hearts. 🍅

This is what July actually tastes like at my house:

🥧 Southern Tomato Pie (a July-only religion) 🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes 🫛 Field Peas and Snaps (know what a zipper pea is? You’re my people) 🍑 Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler 💜 Purple Coleslaw 🍺 Beer Can Chicken (fine, SOME grilling - but only the fun kind)
